Mochi & Me
Diary ยท Entry 47

My cat has started streaming with me, and honestly she’s better at it

Three months ago Mochi walked across my keyboard mid-raid and tripled my viewer count. This is how a rescue cat became the channel’s co-host.

Mochi, mid-shift. The S key no longer works and I’ve accepted this.

I adopted Mochi from a shelter in Portland two winters ago, back when my setup was a folding table and a webcam that made me look like a suspect in a police sketch. She was listed as “shy.” The shelter lied. Within a week she had knocked over a monitor, learned to open the treat drawer, and sat directly on the capture card during the biggest stream I’d ever done.

Chat lost its mind. Clip it, they said. So I did โ€” and that clip did more numbers in a weekend than I had in a year. Now she has her own emote, a channel redeem that makes her feeder drop a single treat, and a standing obligation to appear on camera at least once per stream or the regulars riot.

“She doesn’t care about my K/D. She cares about the warm part of the PC case. She’s the only honest critic I have.”

The vet says she’s healthy, the grooming schedule is holding, and she’s finally stopped trying to eat the XLR cable. Progress. Below are the care notes people keep asking for โ€” food, the desk-bed situation, and how I cat-proofed the setup without spending streaming money on it.

The desk bed experiment, week fourShe uses it 60% of the time. The other 40% is the keyboard. Obviously.

Adopting a “shy” cat: what the shelter won’t tell youSpoiler: shy is a lifestyle, not a personality.

Hi, I’m Jess

I stream cozy games and cat cam five nights a week. Mochi is a four-year-old orange tabby, a failed foster, and the reason my mods had to write a !mochi command. This blog is where the long stuff lives.
